Can Technology Really Reduce Stress?

Everyone is at least a little stressed these days. There is a lot happening both in the wider world and in our own personal lives, and sometimes – even when we have put measures in place to guard against it – stress can creep in. For some, this stress is only a small concern, something that is over and done with in a few days or even hours. For others, stress is a clinical issue that seriously affects mental health and becomes utterly overwhelming. 

 

No matter how you are feeling, reducing your stress levels is crucial. It’s true you might need additional help from a medical expert, and you should never put off asking for this help if you require it, as the sooner you talk to someone, the sooner your treatment can begin. However, in some cases, you can at least start to reduce the symptoms of stress yourself in a variety of different – often very simple – ways. One of these ways is to implement technology wherever possible. 

 

Technology often gets something of a poor reputation when it comes to stress. Many people might feel that computers, wifi, gadgets, and so on actually increase stress levels, particularly when they aren’t working in the way you expect or when there is a problem with them. Reduce Little Irritations 

Sometimes it’s not big things that cause stress, but lots of little ones all added together. A constant dripping tap, someone’s car alarm going off, an unstable keyboard, or perhaps one that you can’t stand the sound of. One of the reasons so many people feel stressed a lot of the time is their work. There often seems to be too much to do in too short a time, and when that is the case – or even if that’s just how you feel – it’s easy to start cutting corners and producing lower-quality work. If not that, then you might find your productivity levels are slipping. Either way, this will only increase your stress, and the cycle continues. 

 

If you are overwhelmed with work, the best thing you can do is speak to your boss and see if there is anything that can be done – deadline extensions are one idea, or an assistant might be useful, for example. Sometimes however, especially if you work for yourself, it might simply be a case of needing to be more organized. If you can streamline what you’re doing, you’ll feel less stress, less pressure, and the work will all get done on time and to a good standard. 

 

Of course, technology will play a part in ensuring this can happen.
