REVIEW: Netgear Orbi 370 Series Dual-Band WiFi 7 Mesh 3-Pack

The Netgear Orbi 370 Series Dual-Band WiFi 7 Mesh 3-Pack is an accessible entry point into next-generation home networking, combining modern wireless technology with a three-unit mesh system designed to eliminate dead zones. Comprising one router and two satellites, the RBE373 aims to deliver dependable connectivity throughout larger homes without the complexity of a more advanced networking setup. It offers a compelling mix of coverage, speed and convenience, although some compromises are inevitable at this price point.

One of the system’s main attractions is its use of WiFi 7, the latest generation of wireless networking. Netgear advertises combined wireless speeds of up to 3.6Gbps, making the system well suited to demanding households with multiple devices streaming, gaming, working remotely and making video calls simultaneously. However, these figures represent theoretical maximums rather than typical real-world download speeds. Actual performance depends on the broadband connection, client devices, interference and the construction of the property.

Coverage is another significant selling point. The three-pack is rated to cover up to 4,500 square feet, with each unit designed to provide coverage across approximately 1,500 square feet. A mesh configuration allows devices to connect through the same network as users move around the home, reducing the need to switch manually between access points. This can be particularly beneficial in properties with multiple floors or rooms where a conventional router struggles. Nevertheless, thick walls, awkward layouts and the distance between units can reduce coverage, so careful satellite placement remains important.

The Netgear Orbi 370 also includes useful wired connectivity. The main router has a 2.5Gbps WAN port and a 2.5Gbps LAN port, allowing compatible broadband services and wired devices to benefit from multi-gigabit connections. Each satellite also features a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. Enhanced backhaul technology is intended to improve communication between the mesh units, helping maintain consistent performance as traffic increases. However, the dual-band design means there is no dedicated third wireless band reserved exclusively for communication between the router and satellites. Under heavier loads, this can limit throughput compared with more expensive tri-band mesh systems.

Setup is designed to be straightforward through the Orbi app, which provides installation guidance and network management tools. Security features include WPA3 encryption, automatic firmware updates, access controls and separate guest and Internet of Things networks. Netgear Armor, powered by Bitdefender, adds broader security and VPN features, although the enhanced service requires a subscription after the included trial. This is worth considering when assessing the long-term cost of ownership.

There are some limitations beyond the dual-band architecture. The system is not intended to provide the extensive configuration options or specialist networking controls that enthusiasts may expect from higher-end equipment. Its maximum advertised speeds will also be difficult to exploit without compatible WiFi 7 devices and a sufficiently fast broadband connection. Homes with modest Internet packages may therefore see less immediate benefit from the newer standard.

Overall, the Netgear Orbi 370 Series RBE373 is a well-rounded mesh system for households seeking wider coverage, modern wireless capabilities and relatively simple management. Its three-unit configuration, multi-gigabit Ethernet and WiFi 7 support make it a worthwhile upgrade from an ageing router, particularly where connectivity problems affect several rooms. The main trade-off is its dual-band design, which sacrifices some performance headroom compared with pricier alternatives. For users prioritising reliable whole-home WiFi over advanced networking features, it strikes a sensible balance between capability and cost.
