REVIEW: Krafted Couch Wireless Charger

We got our hands on the Krafted Couch, and it's a genuinely clever little idea. It's a wireless charger that drapes over your sofa arm instead of sitting on a table somewhere, so we can charge our phone without having to reach across the room every time it buzzes. The flat silicone design with the anti-slip ridge does its job, it stays put on our sofa arm and doesn't slide off when we get up and down, which was our first worry when we saw the concept.

Build quality feels solid for the £39.99 price point. It's Qi2 certified and MagSafe compatible, so if we're using a compatible iPhone we get that satisfying snap into place, and it charges at a proper 15w for iPhone or 10w for Android. The 2 metre cable is a nice touch too, it gives us enough slack to route it behind the sofa or along a skirting board so it doesn't look like a mess of wires draped everywhere.

That said, it's not perfect. At 100mm x 400mm x 11mm it's a fairly substantial strip of silicone hanging over the arm of the sofa, and depending on your sofa style or how minimal you like your living room to look, it might feel like an odd visual addition. We also found that it only really works well on sofas with a reasonably flat, wide arm, if you've got a narrow or curved arm, or a sofa with rolled arms, this thing isn't going to sit right. It's also worth noting you'll need a compatible USB-C power source capable of 9V-2A output to actually get fast charging, which isn't included as far as we can tell, so factor that into the price if you don't already have one lying around.

The matcha colourway itself is nice, a soft muted green that doesn't scream for attention, and it fits into a range where Krafted also does deep blue and latte options if the colour isn't quite right for your space. For anyone who's tired of hunting for their phone charger every time they sit down to watch something, this solves a genuinely annoying problem. It's not going to be for everyone based on sofa shape and aesthetic preference, but as a functional bit of kit it does exactly what it promises. We'd call it a solid, if slightly niche, addition to the smart home charging space rather than a must have gadget.
