REVIEW: Wiser 3 Channel 2nd Generation Multi-room Smart Home Kit

Approaching the Wiser 3 Channel 2nd Generation Multi-room Smart Home Kit as first-time users, our initial impression was that this system is designed to sit at the centre of both heating control and broader smart home automation.

The core of the system is the hub, which connects directly to the boiler and controls up to two heating zones and optional hot water, while communicating wirelessly with the rest of the devices through a Zigbee mesh network and the home Wi-Fi connection. Once installed, it acts as the brain of the entire setup, coordinating thermostats, radiator valves, and additional sensors through the Wiser Home mobile app. The overall promise of the system is not just simple heating control, but room-by-room temperature management and the ability to expand into a wider ecosystem of smart home monitoring and automation.

Our installation process started with the hub itself. As newcomers to smart heating, we were slightly cautious about the wiring stage, since the hub replaces or connects into the existing heating controller near the boiler. The wall plate and wiring terminals are clearly labelled, but this is still the part where some users may prefer a professional installer, especially if their heating system already has multiple zones. Once the hub was powered and connected to the boiler controls, however, the rest of the process felt much more approachable. The system guides us through setup via the Wiser Home app, connecting the hub to the household Wi-Fi network and then pairing additional devices. From that point on, almost everything else is wireless and battery powered, which dramatically simplifies the process.

Adding the room sensors and radiator thermostats was straightforward. The multi-room aspect of the system comes from the ability to control heating at a granular level. Each radiator thermostat or temperature sensor can effectively represent a room or zone in the app, allowing us to create individual schedules and temperature targets. Instead of heating the entire house evenly, we can choose to warm specific rooms at specific times, which immediately feels more efficient.

The app allows us to create schedules, switch between Eco, Comfort, and Away modes, and adjust the temperature remotely if plans change during the day. In a typical household routine, this means bedrooms can warm up before bedtime while living areas stay cooler overnight. The system is designed to manage up to sixteen rooms and dozens of connected devices, so even a larger home can be covered by expanding the setup gradually.

What makes the Wiser system feel more like a full smart home platform rather than just a heating controller is the way it integrates additional sensors. For example, door and window sensors can detect when a window is opened and send an alert through the app. More importantly, they can trigger automation rules that prevent heating from running in a room where a window has been opened, helping avoid wasted energy. From our perspective as first-time users, this small automation immediately felt practical and intelligent rather than gimmicky. The same app can also manage motion sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, and other devices in the Wiser ecosystem.

Another feature we appreciated was the ability to integrate safety devices such as moisture detectors and smart smoke alarms. The leak detector, for instance, is a small sensor that sits on the floor near appliances or pipework and triggers an alert if water bridges its sensing pads. Placing one under a sink or near a washing machine adds a layer of reassurance, particularly when the house is empty. Similarly, the smart smoke alarm connects to the hub and sends notifications to our phones if smoke or rapid temperature increases are detected.

While these devices are simple to install, the real value comes from their integration into the same app that controls heating, creating a single dashboard for comfort, energy use, and household safety.

After several weeks of use, the most noticeable benefit of the Wiser system is how it encourages us to think about heating in terms of rooms rather than the whole house. The scheduling tools and automation rules make it easy to fine-tune temperatures around daily routines, and the app provides quick manual overrides whenever needed. At the same time, the expandable ecosystem means the system can gradually evolve into a broader smart home setup, incorporating sensors that monitor security, humidity, and potential leaks.

For first-time users like us, the learning curve is relatively gentle after the initial installation, and the combination of heating control and smart monitoring makes the Wiser kit feel like a practical and versatile starting point for a connected home.
