REVIEW: MocPixel Gizmo

Be sure not to feed this critter after midnight! Following some fun builds from MocPixel in the past, we were happy to try another from their '80s movie character range - Gizmo from The Gremlins. Here's what we thought.

The set features 365 pieces of not-LEGO (yet is exactly the same as LEGO) blocks. Together with the downloadable .pdf instructions, the build took us about an hour and resulted in a very pleasingly accurate Mogwai.

Standing 15cm tall, Gizmo makes quite the impact, and the overall shaping of the body really works to bring back those '80s movie memories.

There are good details all around, and thankfully no stickers are used in the set. The only prints are for the two eyes.

There's a great range of motion thanks to the stiff ball joints on the head, arms, legs, and both ears. This means you can achieve a range of poses and emotions.

Gizmo's mouth can also open and close, adding to the range of positions you can get him into, and scenes you can recreate.

One flaw that was highlighted for us, however, were some incorrect parts in the pack. We rceived two wrong pieces which meant we weren't able to to get the correct shaping on the legs. MocPixel do have a great missing parts policy, however, so if that happens to you, you'll be fine eventually.

It's surprising how emotive you can get Gizmo to appear, probably helped by the fact that the finished model is about the actual size of the character in the movie.

It was a relatively simple build, with multi-directional construction used throughout, with lots of small pieces. A challenge for younger builders, but nothing to discourage newbies.

Gizmo is a great set for movie fans, kids, and anyone who wants a cute desk buddy. We love him!
