REVIEW: SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger

SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger review

Charge and save

Most modern smartphones now come with the ability to be charged wirelessly. Dropping your phone casually onto a charging pad at night is now second nature for a lot of people, and we're guessing you're pretty satisfied with that, right? Well, our good chums at SanDisk have figured out a way to making wireless charging even better. We check out the SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger.

Your headlines here are that this is a wireless charging pad, compatible with all Qi-enabled smartphones, that also backs up your phone's data. Plug it in, set it up via the app, good for Android and iOS, and lay your flat phone upon it. As well as receiving some juice, the SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger will receive all the new photos and videos you've taken.

The good thing here is that it just works. Two necessary birds are laid out by one compact tech stone, and as your phone is charged, all those important pics and vids will be backed-up - right to the iXpand itself. Peace of mind, right there.

The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger is available in two storage capacity options; 128GB and 256GB. Obviously the one you go for depends on the storage in your phone, and how much of it you want to back-up each time you charge. We found that the 128GB version could be enough, even for larger phones, if you're selective about what is transferred over during the backup. All that can, however, be set up in the app. Once it's done, it's done for good and doesn't need any fiddling with until you want to. Like we said, it just works.

The SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger itself is far sleeker than we were expecting. At just 19mm thick this really has no bad visual impact on your environment. In fact, if placed in the right place (by your bedside, probably best) it kind of disappears. White and unassuming, there's nothing about the iXpand that shouts storage. It just looks like a fairly regular wireless charging pad. It's pretty, basically.

We also like the fact that the charger has a safety feature that shuts it off if it detects anything other than a phone on it (like your keys or coins), and that the power cable is six feet long, letting you set it just about anywhere you need your charging phone to live.

SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger review

We really like the SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger; proven by the fact that it's settled nicely into life here at Test Pit Towers and we almost forgot to write up this review. We love anything that becomes invisible and easy after just a few minutes of use, and something that tackles two modern concerns (power and backups) in one attractive gadget.

Check it out.

256GB £129
