While filming our Norwegian travel vlog we were kept online thanks to a little gadget called YRoam. Grateful for that constant access to the internet, no matter where in the world we went, we decided to grab a chat with one of YRoam's directors, Caterina Luckhurst. Here's what she said...
Hello. Who are you?
My name is Caterina
Luckhurst, proudly speaking on behalf of YRoam and my fellow
Directors.
And what do you do?
As we are a new
company, all the Directors have taken a ‘all hands on deck’
approach! My colleagues and I are making agreements with distributors
and businesses scattered across the world, mastering and training
clients on our data management platform, and having fun dipping into
the world of social media and marketing to keep an online presence.
What is an average day
like for you?
An average day can
really vary to be honest, but it always starts with a good coffee!
Sometimes it may start with a very early catch up call with our
customers across the world; the time difference can be tricky.
Checking our management platform to see who’s online, to help
support our customers and make sure all is order. A daily check and
fun post on Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram to keep things light, and
share our thoughts or other articles we like via the YRoam blog.
Where do you see mobile
internet industry going in the near future, and how might you have to
adapt?
We truly see this as an
ever growing industry, where there is always room for growth and new
ideas. A world where people are able to get the latest headlines at
the drop of a hat, share their day instantly with their friends,
family and colleagues, order anything online with a tap of the finger
and work on the go from their hand-sized computer, almost anywhere in
the world. We see the industry moving away from long term contracts,
confusing T&Cs and hidden/unforeseen costs, otherwise known as
bill shock! We’ve already had to adapt our product and our data
bundles to suit the wants (and needs) of customers and be more
transparent. Upfront costs, on-screen data usage, flat rates and a
built-in power bank to name a few!
What advice would you
offer to someone keen to follow in your footsteps?
Keep your mind open to
ideas and opportunities. There is almost always something you can do
better and listening to an outside perspective never hurts.
Apart from your own
product, what kind of gadget would you like to see being reviewed on
The Test Pit?
The WT2 (Real time
language translation). I’m desperate to see the WT2 to be reviewed
(or test it myself!). I think this is an amazing invention that will
enable people to break down language barriers and will enhance the
way of the world, if it does what it claims. It runs parallel to the
travel/ hospitality industry, roaming/mobile industry and has the
potential to be huge!
We'll try to get one, then,
Thanks Caterina!
