NEWS: Is this the next iPhone?

Digging deep for leaks?

The icon above could represent the next iPhone, according to code found within another Apple device. Recently the firmware  for the upcoming Apple Homepod (which we reported on herewas released, either by accident or for developers to get cracking on. However, buried within the code was references to a device named "D22" which developers Steve Troughton-Smith and Guilherme Rambo propose is the next iPhone.

As well as cryptic references to this D22 device, and the icon which is undoubtedly a smartphone, the firmware revealed details about it. The phone, which may or may not be called the iPhone 8 (some say it could be called iPhone X), will possibly possess facial recognition technology to eliminate the need for a passkey to unlock the device.

If all this is true, and the next iPhone will have a significantly different form factor than previous models (the icon seems to have a bezel-less display) then good on 'em. We've long been tired of iPhones as they lack any real innovation, and although they are always sound, reliable phones (check out our iPhone 7 review) they are hardly the most exciting products on the smartphone market. Perhaps we'll be saying differently once the next is released, possible as soon as September.

Check back here for more details are they come in.
