Boom town.
Thought to begin test flights next year is the XB-1 Supersonic Demonstrator, nicknamed 'Baby Boom'; a joint project between Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic and Denver-based Boom Technology. The 40-seater jet is hoped to ferry passengers from London to New York in just 3.5 hours, travelling at 1451mph.
At those speeds, it'll make the Baby Boom 10% faster than Concorde was at full pelt, and 2.6 times faster than normal commercial jetliners. Testing is hoped to begin over California, with Branson hoping this will be mankind's proper step into regular supersonic travel since Concorde was officially decommissioned. And the cost of a flight? Why, only a mere £5000 for a return.
