FEATURE: Autumn Apparel

It's cold. Ish.

Autumn is a weird time of year. As we type, the sun is shining quite brightly and all the open windows in Test Pit Towers are letting in warm breezes. Yesterday, however, it was freezing and chucking it down. To tackle this unpredictable time of year (here in the UK, at least) we've gathered together a few recently released clothing items to keep you as prepared as you're ever going to be.

Jack Wolfskin Caldera Fleece Jacket

A decent fleece is a go-to garment between September and November, for times when a sudden chill overtakes what started as a warm day, or to stash in your pack for a quick grab 'n' wear. The Caldera from Jack Wolfskin is extra soft and fully breathable, with a full-length zip on the front and pockets on either side. Squashes down tight, too.

Sherpa Tsepun Zip Tee

Designed more for rugged situations than the one above, the Tsepun from Sherpa is mid-layer thermal top that is insulating, quick dying, and blocks 99% of UV. It is a far snugger fit than a normal fleece or base layer, but we found it was perfect away from the mountains too, and wore it around the city as an outer layer on an autumn day. There is chest pocket perfect for cash and cards, and the nylon body was smooth and comfortable.

MrQuintessential Grant Rollneck

A sturdy jumper is often the order of the day, be it worn under your jacket, or as the outer layer when the weather is better. The Grant from MrQuintessential is 100% Mongolian Cashmere made in a basket weave to make it textured and tactile. Warm, luxurious, and coming in strong colours, the Grant's only slight downside for us is the price. It's a whopping...

Bogs Johnny Chukka Boots

What? Footwear from Bogs that ISN'T a pair of wellies? Yep, its happening, baby. We were completely unaware, but Bogs also make other kinds of stuff for your feet, and the Johnny Chukka Boots are one such pair. These tough and waterproof boots (albeit low cut, shoe-like boots) are perfect for a wet day around town or even for work in tough conditions. Comfy on for prolonged periods, these are stylish, flexible and help combat foot odour. Win.

Bridgedale Mountain Merino Socks

No matter what time of year it is, a tough and decent pair of socks is an absolute must. This long and cosy pair from Bridgedale will pull all the way over your calves and are made from 34% Merino wool for warmth and comfort. Perfect for activities like skiing and snowboarding, the Mountains are also great for everyday use during chilly times. Combined with the Bogs shoes above we were ready for anything the autumn could throw at us.
