NEWS: Facebook ruins Christmas... apparently

You won't 'Like' this...

If you're planning on spending a bit of your festive break checking out other people's Christmases on Facebook, don't. According to research carried out by the University of Copenhagen suggests that looking at photos of apparent 'perfect' festive family scenes can be depressing. Facebook "lurking" as thery call it, being where you look at people's profiles without interacting with them, can, so the research suggests, lead to unrealistic comparisions with your own Christmas celebrations.

It suggests that you should try to stay off Facebook, and other social media sites, as much as possible over Christmas, to help keep you as positive as possible. So the report claims: "Regular use of social networking such as Facebook can negatively affect your emotional well-being and satisfaction with life." Of the 1300 people surveyed in the course of the research, a large proportion suffered from a "deterioration of mood" as a result of viewing other's apparent better lives.

So there you have it. Turn off Facebook. Except us - keep following us.
