NEWS: Jony Ive set to design a Christmas tree

iTree. Treebook. xMasPod?

Apple's chief designer Jony Ive, who has been behind the look of pretty much all of the company's products for almost two decades, has been invited by swish London hotel Claridges to design their Christmas tree. The upmarket venue welcomes the input of famous designers every Christmas, and past contributors have included Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry.

So what will Ive, working with mate and design colleague Marc Newson, come up with? If his past work is anything to go by, the tree will be a slab of "a-loo-minum" with a circle at the bottom. And if he's ever asked back to do another tree, it'll be a slab of "a-loo-minum" with a circle at the bottom. Seriously though, we're interested to see how phone designers will transplant their talents into a tree, and we'll be watching out for the unveiling on 18th November.

One thing is for sure; you definitely won't be able to plug your headphones into it.
