NEWS: Google Glass to offer prescription lenses

 Speccy four-eyes.

With the all the hype surrounding Google Glass for what seems like years now (seriously, just release the damn thing) we were a little curious as to how our bespectacled friends would wear the headset device. Its all very well sticking a heads-up-display in front of one of your eyes, but if that eye can only focus on a squirrel several miles away you're a little bit screwed.

NEWS: Sabertron on Kickstarter

The force is (hopefully) with this one.

We were very much excited to hear about Sabertron, an under-development sword fighting system. Apart from being possibly the closest thing to having actual lightsaber duels, Sabertron will hopefully make LARPing battles more interesting.

FEATURE: Ways to keep warm this winter

Cold? No problem...

The end of January is usually when the worst of the winter weather sets in, with icy winds and downpours of snow. As we've already admitted to here The Test Pit, we're not overly adept at going outside all that often, so when its cold it can really be a bother. For us That is why we've scoured the net to find three handy (pun intended) gadgets that will keep us toasty until the spring. Here we go then...

REVIEW: Hubsan Q4 Quadcopter

Size matters not.

We take to the skies once more here at The Test Pit, eager as we are to sour above the green hills of England (and to avoid slipping on all that damn ice). This time we are reviewing another quadcopter from stalwart gadget gurus RED5, who previously furnished us with the sparkly flying Quacopter with LEDs. Whereas that chopper certainly made itself known as it tore up the skies above Test Pit Towers, the Q4 is altogether a more subtle creature.

REVIEW: Brunton Torpedo Hybrid Power Pack

Damn the torpedoes!

Keeping your essential gadgets juiced up is one of life's little necessities these days. After all, who would want to miss a vital tweet from Harry Styles or not be able to listen to the What Does The Fox Say song on repeat while attending a funeral? Not us, that’s for sure. That is why we never leave home without a mobile power pack such as this one or this one.

But what happens when even the power packs run dry and you're still 90 miles from Dundee? With no outlet socket in your car how are you going to charge the kids' tablet with back-to-back episodes of Spongebob playing out? Easy, because you bought the Torpedo Hybrid Power Pack from Brunton.

REVIEW: Netgear Push2TV Wireless Display Adapter

Mirror, mirror...

Here at The Test Pit we love our big screen phones. Some refer to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as a 'phablet', but we prefer the term 'Manphone', said in an appropriately grisly voice. But imagine a mobile with a 40 inch screen, or 50 inches, or even 90 inches!

Although only a gadget-loving giant would be able to fit a phone that size into his pocket, it is something you can achieve thanks to Netgear's Push2TV Wireless Display Adapter. We just urge you to leave your new massive phone at home.

REVIEW: Battroborgs Battle Arena

Robot wars!

Finally the time has come! Skynet has gone self-aware and Judgement Day is upon us. THE ROBOTS ARE PREPARING FOR WAR! Fortunately the robots in question are just a few inches tall and are more interested in fighter each other, than destroying our towns and cities. Phew. That is because Battroborgs have finally been unleashed: the pint sized robotic-warriors that you can control.

It'll be like a really weird small-scale version of Pacific Rim.

COMPETITION: Win a Patrona Connector Wallet

We recently reviewed the Connector Wallets from Patrona here and loved them.

And so, thanks to Patrona, we’re offering one lucky person the chance to own a Connector Wallet. The wallet fits the iPhone 4, comes in a pretty jazzy Jaffa (or orange to us common folk) and fits three credit cards. RRP £80.

REVIEW: Divoom OnBeat 500 Bluetooth Speaker

On form.

We’re old hands at this now; reviewing speakers that can connect to your phone via Bluetooth. We've had little light cheap ones, expensive powerful ones and even ones that you can use during a water fight. Today however we’re looking at one that packs a punch, not just with sound but also in weight.

REVIEW: Patrona Connector Wallet

Card Shark.

What is a wallet anyway? If you’re anything like us then your wallet is a breeding ground for Post Office receipts, coffee shop loyalty cards, old cinema ticket stubs and scraps of paper with long-forgotten friends’ email addresses. But thanks to British innovation company Patrona, your wallet will soon be fully integrated with your phone – and we don’t mean by way of some dodgy app.

REVIEW: Mini Helicopter RC 3 Channel with Gyro Alloy Frame

Hopper chopper

The world has been a much better place since radio controlled gadgets started to fly. Think about it; in days gone by all the kids and geeky adults of this world had was RC cars and boats. These days – thankfully – we can now unite and scream as one: “Oh no, it’s hit the lampshade!” And it’s all thanks to RC helicopters.

FEATURE: The Manper Session #2

New year, new face.

A few months ago we conducted our first ever Manper Session: a pampering session with a GRRR MANLY twist. We enjoyed it so much (in a manly, 'just friends' sorta way), that we jumped at the chance to do it all again with a fresh batch of bathroom buddy gadgets.
